Purdy Kresge Library Simon’s Room AV Instructions

System Controls

The room is equipped with a hard button controller. Button functionality is as follows:

Button Label

Function

Note

“On”

Turn display on

“Off”

Turn display off

“PC”

Display the dedicated PC

The PC should always be powered on, but may be in “sleep” mode. Move the mouse or keyboard to “wake up” the workstation and have it visible on the confidence monitors and the main room display,

“Laptop”

Display a laptop or personal device

The room has a hardwired HDMI cable with an adapter ring. Most personal devices can connect via HDMI to the display but, if the device does not have an HDMI port, one of the adapters on the ring may work. Connect the appropriate adapter to the HDMI cable and then connect to the laptop or personal device.

“Wireless”

Display a laptop or personal device

The room has wireless hardware that allows a laptop or personal device to be presented on the main display from anywhere in the room. When selecting this source from the controller, a screen with instructions on how to connect will show on the main display. Enter the IP address into a web browser on your personal device and follow the prompts to connect. Please note, when using devices other than a laptop, an APP may have to be downloaded to connect.

“Mute”

Temporarily stop presenting audio and video to the main display

Volume knob

Adjust the volume level coming from the soundbar (under the main display)

Additional volume controls for program audio (for in-room and remote sessions) and microphones (remote sessions) can be found on the dedicated PC, laptop, or personal device.

Camera

The room is equipped with a wall-mounted camera (west wall) that faces the “front of room” towards the presenter station. The camera plumbs directly into the dedicated room PC so, if used, a remote session must be initiated with the dedicated room PC.

There is a remote stored in the drawer that controls the pan, tilt, and zoom of the camera’s capture area.

To set the capture area prior to starting a remote session, open the camera APP on the dedicated room PC and set the capture area. You can also do this from Teams and Zoom interfaces prior to starting and/or joining the session.

Microphones

The room is equipped with a button microphone at the presenter station and a wireless microphone that plumb directly into the dedicated room PC so, if used, a remote session must be initiated with the dedicated room PC.

The wireless microphone is stored in the drawer.

Microphone “gain levels” can be adjusted in Teams and Zoom interfaces prior to starting and/or joining the session.

There is no in-room voice amplification in this room.

Other Components

The room is equipped with the following components to consider when using the room for a session.

  • Dual confidence monitors: this feature is to allow the dedicated room PC to be in “extended desktop” mode so one confidence monitor is duplicated on the main display and the second confidence monitor allows the presenter to engage in remote participants while the main display shows the presenter’s content to in-room attendees.

  • Wireless mouse and keyboard: this feature is to allow participants to navigate the dedicated room PC from anywhere in the room. Please note: these devices require batteries for power and may need to be powered on to function. Please have spare batteries on-hand in the event the keyboard and mouse do not work when powered on.

Technical Support

Please contact the C&IT Help Desk at 313-577-1154 for assistance with the technology. The Help Desk will attempt to assist you over the phone and, if needed, will dispatch a technician for on-site assistance.
